about us

Meet Lorianne Dicaire and Tracey Mattinson—better known as Mange and Cheese, the dynamic duo behind Lowlife Mtl. They’ve been playing roller derby for almost 20 years! Cheese began her derby journey in 2006 in Hamilton, Ontario, while Mange joined the Montreal derby scene in 2008. Both have been long-time members of the Montreal New Skids on the Block, a team that has consistently ranked in the top 10 in the world—a testament to their skill, dedication, and passion for the sport.

But their love for skating doesn’t stop at derby. With years of combined experience in retail and customer service, it was a natural step for them to bring their passion for skating into the business world. That’s how Lowlife Mtl came to be—a skate shop run by skaters, for skaters.

The idea for the shop was born in 2016, when a close friend suggested they turn their shared enthusiasm for skating and retail into something more. After the closure of Neon Skates, Montreal’s previous roller skate shop owned by their pal Georgia W Tush, Lorianne and Tracey recognized the need for a new shop in the community. Inspired by Georgia’s legacy they set out to make their dream a reality. Not long after, Lowlife Mtl was born, opening a storefront on Papineau in Montreal and an online shop to serve skaters near and far.

With nearly 500 years of combined experience in skating, retail, and customer service, Lorianne and Tracey have built a shop that’s all about quality products, expert advice, and the best customer service. They’re passionate about sharing their knowledge with everyone who walks through their doors, whether you’re a seasoned skater or just starting your journey. And of course, they’re known for creating a welcoming, friendly atmosphere—complete with adorable puppies—that makes every customer feel like part of the Lowlife family.
